Latin America: Beyond M&A – Strategic Partnerships and Market Entry
US payment companies are finding innovative ways to tap into Latin America's booming markets beyond traditional acquisitions. While Fiserv's upcoming purchase of Brazil's Money Money showcases the continued value of strategic M&A, partnerships are emerging as the faster route to market penetration.
Visa recently teamed with Stripe to launch stablecoin-linked payment cards across six Latin American countries, allowing customers to spend digital assets at any Visa merchant. Meanwhile, ACI Worldwide is collaborating with Colombia's central bank to build a new real-time payments ecosystem set to transform the country's financial infrastructure by 2025.
Regulatory licensing is proving equally crucial. Airwallex secured a payment institution license from Brazil's Central Bank while acquiring Mexico's MexPago, creating a powerful dual-market approach. Similarly, Paysafe obtained a Brazilian payment license for the newly regulated online sports betting market, positioning itself to capture a share of the projected $34 billion industry.
The region's homegrown fintech sector is thriving alongside international entrants. Mexican fintech Stori secured $212 million last August to expand services to the unbanked, while Argentina's Ualá raised an impressive $366 million to accelerate its operations in Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico.
At TRANSACT Tech -- LATAM, representatives from the Central Banks of Mexico and Brazil will join leaders from established networks like Visa and Discover alongside innovators such as Stripe, Thredd, Boost, Ebanx, and Matera. This gathering presents a unique opportunity to connect with strategic partners who can navigate Latin America's complex but rewarding payments ecosystem.
Don't miss your chance to meet the architects of Latin America's financial transformation. The connections you make could open doors to the region's next wave of payment innovation.
