On April 23, 2026, the Trump administration officially moved to reclassify marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act, but did not fully de-schedule it.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche signed an order reclassifying state-licensed medical marijuana and FDA-approved marijuana products from Schedule I (same as heroin) to Schedule III (similar to Tylenol with codeine).
